The latest NSA news is as dismal as ever, and at this point not terribly surprising. The US government is spying on how we interact on social networks and the phone — and in other ways — with an intensity that threatens one of the First Amendment's guarantees: freedom of assembly.

As usual the government blathers on about how it's aimed at The Terrorists and totally lawful, even though (buried in the story) we learn that even after a court told the NSA to stop collecting certain data it went right ahead and collected it anyway. The ongoing lawbreaking and lack of accountability is now a sad refrain.
